The star has been born again
The successor of the famous HA-2SE amplifier is ready for the market to rise even higher than its predecessor. The HA-2SE was one of the best-selling devices from the Auris product range which launched Auris Audio to the very top of the world when it comes to the headphone amplifiers. After many years of “flow”, the Company stopped producing this particular amp in the end of 2019.
The HA-2SE gets its successor that will have similar basis and price range but with a lot of improvements and additions compared to its predecessor. As the main feature, it is adorned with a balanced input and output, as well as VU meters on the front. The name of the new star from the Auris range of headphone amplifiers is HA-2SF.

AMPLIFIER
On the front panel, you have the 4-pin XLR balanced output, and the 6.3 mm single ended headphone output, along with the two VU-meters, which will enhance your visual enjoyment. On the top of the unit you have the impedance selectors for the outputs, volume control and as well as the line-in selector switch.
The HA-2SF have 2 x RCA and 1 x XLR Balanced inputs on the back along with the PRE Out option, which allows you to connect to all your music sources, as well as the possibility of using this great amplifier a Pre Amp for your home system for complete enjoyment. Balanced connectors will bring you the ultimate satisfaction.
SOUND
The HA-2SF headphone amplifier has a natural sound, layered from the top to the bottom. No loss of details, perfect clarity, precision and airiness with all the headphones plugged into it. The mid range has sensational performance with vocals, the clarity and transparency are all delivered flawlessly. Treble extension seems to always soar and felt endless. Bass had both slam and texture and the extension is excellent, detailed and when called for, it delivers a thunder in producing the sound. The HA-2SF is an amplifier that provides real enjoyment of listening to and playing your favorite music.
DESIGN
The HA-2SF follows the distinctive design of all Auris amplifiers. With top and bottom wood plates sendwiching the leather wrapped high quality aluminum chassis shows a high level of detail and execution. By touching you will have a feeling of true luxury in front of you!
The Auris Audio HA-2SF is an upgrade in every sense of the word over the older HA-2SE. You get better output power, a palpable upgrade in dynamic range, enhanced resolution, and a sound signature that veers more to the natural and clean side than before.
Externally, any design is always one for the eye of the beholder but in terms of form factor, the lower profile will definitely improve rack-friendliness whilst still retaining that beautifully inviting retro-soft wood and tan finish. This amp is full of ‘yum’ aesthetically speaking, cannot deny that.
The LED light show will offer plenty of pop from the new Vu Meter display and under the tubes, though if possible a simple switch to turn various aspects off might appeal to those who like a more discreet system. Also, wouldn’t it have been something if those balanced ins and outs really did connect to a balanced amplification circuit?
Perhaps the cleverest aspect is something both the old and the new share and that is the impedance selector. I do wish more amps would offer this feature, it can make the difference between a sterile headphone performance and a very pleasurable listening experience. Smart stuff indeed!
I’m very pleased with the Auris Audio HA2-SF. The updated model now not only has a balanced circuitry and gain selection, but it is technically stronger and more high-end sounding. Sure, it is more expense, but it is worth it.
To me the HA2-SF is even punching and playing a little above its price point, even though it’s no longer a cheap amp to start with. It’s not the ultimate amp for tube rolling, but I think that for many is a good thing as it’s easier to get into tube amps.
Taking the design, performance and price into account, the Auris Audio HA2-SF – together with the fact that it doesn’t require super expensive tubes to sound great – it for me is very easy to award it with our Recommended Buy Award. It replaces the HA2-SE amplifier on our best buy list.
