Description
Fostex RP-Series Professional Headphones

The RP Driver

At the heart of the RP series is the Regular Phase (RP) diaphragm driver, which uses copper foil etched polyimide film and a neodymium magnet. This is a unique planar magnetic (also known as orthodynamicdriver which Fostex claims has been redesigned to “achieve sharper audio reproduction for more accurate monitoring”.

“The RP system is an electrically driven electro-acoustic transducer using a plane coil diaphragm… a surface driving system which actuates the whole surface of the diaphragm with the same phase… so constructed that entire diaphragm is evenly driven by supporting extremely thin plane coils of high density between pairs of powerfully magnetic circuits with identical poles opposed, through a unique holding method.” – original 1977 brochure.

  • Redesigned low repulsion ear pad and head pad for maximum comfort
  • Detachable cable for best serviceability

RP-Series Professional Headphones

The Fostex RPmk3 series headphones are successors to the renowned RPmk2 series, which for more than 30 years (including from the start of the T-series) has been used as reliable monitor headphones by professional recording studios across the globe. The unique planar-magnetic (also known as orthodynamic) driver unit incorporates Fostex’s proprietary Regular Phase (RP) Technology diaphragm, which is delicately refined to achieve sharper audio reproduction for more accurate monitoring. The housing, ear pads, and head pad have also been redesigned both to derive the maximum performance of the RP driver, and provide maximum comfort for the listener.

  • Refined Fostex proprietary Regular Phase (RP) diaphragm driver using copper foil etched polyimide film and powerful neodymium magnet
  • The maximum input level of 3000mW to complies with various professional uses

Pro Reviews

Overall T60RP has clean, clear neutral and smooth sounding. Not the greatest detail hp in the price, T60RP more focus on body, realistic sound, detail is above average. The bass quantity is close or the same as DT880 but better in quality, faster deeper, more body. The midrange is standout, really clean, clear, liquid, singers feel present and real, balance between detail and emotion. Treble is not really extended, in control and energetic, on good records I want to raise the volume, but some harsh records need to volume down a bit.

Conclusion: I have become very fond of the T60rp due to its natural and honest portrayal of music. Things sound real out of them, they may not excel when it comes to pure technicalities but when you listen to them you forget about that and just become immersed in the music. On that merit I suggest you try and demo these if you can.

The Fostex T60RP headphones are an upgrade from the others in the RP series. They are certainly a quality headphone with a thick, solid, and rich sound signature. They are comfortable for long duration use, and so I’d highly recommend them for folks who either just like to listen for a long time, or for mix engineers or recording engineers looking for a pair of headphones to supplement their monitors.
