Summary
IF you’re looking for a great DAP but can dish out the money for the top flagship players, the M7 is a great in-between. Its balanced sound signature mixed with its user-friendly Android interface makes for a great experience, and it stands out amongst other DAPs in this price range. It’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea as far as its treble extension goes, but the M7 still offers enough to be worthwhile.
OUR VERDICT
The Shanling M7 delivers an excellent balance between portability, tonality, and power. It could easily pair with any IEMs and is able to power portable cans to sound very dynamic and loud.
This is a device that has curated all the qualities audiophiles need to enjoy and relax with the music at home or outdoor. It would be even nicer if the battery can last a bit longer but even without that minor quibble, this is an excellent recommendation.
Conclusion
Yes, Shanling claimed that this was the much more compact version of the M9. But for some reason, I mostly associated it with the Shanling M8, which I think is still a great DAP. So in my opinion, this is simply the replacement of the M8, instead of challenging the M9 with a smaller footprint. I think an “M8 MKii” name would be fitting for this player.
So the M8 owners can still use their DAP, especially if they love that very warm sound signature. However, if you want to get a compact, stylish, competitive DAP in the market today with plenty of features and great sound, this I think is the best choice right now.
